Dharmavaram Kottam Aruna(D.K. Aruna) is a strong, dynamic, and people-centric leader, currently serving as the Member of Parliament from Mahbubnagar and National Vice President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). With decades of experience in public life, she has built a reputation as a fearless voice for the people and a committed force for development in Telangana.
Born on May 4, 1960, in Dhanwada, Narayanpet district, she hails from a distinguished political family rooted in service and sacrifice. Her father, Chittem Narsi Reddy, was a respected freedom fighter and senior leader, whose values of integrity and dedication deeply influenced her journey. Carrying forward this legacy, D.K. Aruna entered politics in 1996 with a strong determination to serve society.
Her political journey is a story of resilience and courage. After initial challenges, she rose to prominence with a historic victory in 2004, contesting as an Independent candidate and winning with a significant majority. She went on to secure consecutive victories in 2009 and 2014, earning the trust and confidence of the people of Gadwal.
As a Minister in the undivided Andhra Pradesh government, she served as Minister for Small Scale Industries and later as Minister for Information and Public Relations, contributing to industrial growth, governance transparency, and effective communication between the government and the public. D.K. Aruna has played a pivotal role in transforming the Mahbubnagar region. She was instrumental in the formation of Jogulamba-Gadwal district and worked tirelessly for the completion of key irrigation projects like Nettempadu, bringing relief and hope to thousands of farmers. Her leadership is marked by bold actions, including hunger strikes and a padayatra from Gadwal to Hyderabad to fight for the region’s rightful development.
In 2019, she joined the Bharatiya Janata Party, beginning a new chapter in her political journey. Her leadership and dedication earned her the position of BJP National Vice President. In 2024, she created history by winning the Mahbubnagar Lok Sabha seat, becoming the first woman BJP MP from Telangana.
